MetaMask broadens cryptocurrency exit points to 10 blockchains through Transak integration

MetaMask broadens cryptocurrency exit points to 10 blockchains through Transak integration

Date: 2025-02-26 16:17:50

The self-custodial wallet MetaMask, which leads the Ethereum (ETH) ecosystem, has extended its fiat off-ramp feature to over 10 blockchains. This development is made possible through its collaboration with the payments company Transak.

Previously, users of MetaMask had to swap their tokens for ETH before they could convert them into fiat. This process was not only expensive but also inefficient.

"By broadening off-ramping capabilities with Transak, MetaMask is eliminating obstacles between crypto and conventional currency. This enables users to directly convert a wider variety of tokens into cash," stated Lorenzo Santos, senior product manager at Consensys.

This expansion will grant users across these networks access to direct off-ramping with the supported cryptocurrencies. The first ones to go live are ETH on both Ethereum and Optimism, as well as BNB and Polygon (POL).

The growth of the off-ramp feature from its initial support, which was rolled out when MetaMask partnered with Transak in September 2023, also signifies an increase in the number of supported countries.

Initially, the service was only available to users in the United Kingdom and European Union. However, with Transak's integration, this network will expand to over 100 countries in the coming months. MetaMask also introduced Transak-enabled on-ramping in 2021.

"MetaMask remains the first crypto wallet for many web3 newcomers in 2025. Its vast and rapidly expanding user base needs a simple way to enter and exit the crypto market. The entry point was already provided in 2021 with Transak On-Ramp. Now, with Transak Off-Ramp, the circle is complete for the user," said Yeshu Agarwal, co-founder and chief technology officer at Transak.

As a top self-custodial wallet, MetaMask often serves as the first experience of the cryptocurrency industry for new users. Over the years, the wallet has endeavored to improve adoption and usability. One of its main focuses has been on a user-friendly interface, which is considered crucial for the broader goal of promoting web3 adoption.

Partnerships with Transak and other entities in the space contribute to this impact. It results in increased on and off ramping support across many regions, bringing financial inclusion and freedom to the unbanked and underbanked. Such underserved countries include Brazil, Kenya, and Indonesia.
