The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has requested assistance from the crypto sector in monitoring and obstructing transactions aimed at laundering the $1.5 billion that North Korean hackers stole from Bybit.
In a public service announcement issued on Wednesday, the FBI released a list of Ethereum addresses that are holding or have previously held assets from the theft. The announcement reaffirmed the country's involvement and referred to it as a TraderTraitor operation.
Blockchain analytics firms had previously linked the hack to the Lazarus group, which is associated with North Korea. The ether and ETH staking tokens were taken in the largest-ever hack of a crypto exchange last week.
According to the PSA, some of the stolen assets are being converted to bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies "across thousands of addresses on multiple blockchains" by the malicious actors. The FBI anticipates that the assets will be laundered further and ultimately converted to fiat currency.
